Somebody did do a recap of affected users earlier in this post. Can I suggest the sticky thread has a note saying to just post the issue, make & model and what steps have been taken. There could be a link to this thread for anybody wanting to discuss the issue further.

Anyway, I visited my local dealer today to discuss the issue. As expected, they won't say anything until they've had chance to look at the car. It's booked to go in for Monday 2nd November.

I agree with comments re the required reaction from a Volvo dealer ...... Unfortunately, in my case, probably like dozens of others, I proceeded with repair / replacement, totally oblivious to the problems experienced by many others ....... even that there were there a multitude of people with the same fault. How would we / I have known .......? ... And that we do know, isn't time answers and action are forthcoming?

After all we are talking about " Volvo ", a manufacturer with a highly vaunted safety reputation, who appears to have a had a problem over a period of some 7 / 8 years, a problem now becoming more and more apparent and, as per my previous post, had experienced similar problems with their vehicles?

For me to now approach a Volvo dealer after " the event " would probably be met with a shrug and a " so what ..... Where's the proof ... You should have contacted us first ......... Sir "

Surely it is only the apparent quantity of complaints and experiences of many individuals that gives the strength and validity of something being amiss ...? ... possibly giving the ability for some form of retrospective action and / or compensation ...... If this is likely to be unsuitable to any responsible party, dealer or manufacturer, then there is little point in making waves.

Can I suggest that one, if not the only, way everybody's voice was heard, is by a responsible body and in my opinion this Board with the support of its affected members, is such a body?

Hi,

Yes, perhaps. But first we have to gather the evidence and numbers.

Totally agree Topper, I am in exactly the same position as you, 6 year old car - windscreen leaks so I shopped around...... got a quote from Autoglass for removal and reseal and they said the windscreen would probably break so quoted for a replacement at £671. National Windscreens on the other hand quote circa £100 to remove reseal and replace (actual cost was £72). At no time did I approach Volvo other than to find out the cost of a new windscreen - £399 to see how much Autoglass were about to rip me off on labour.

Had the car been newer or still under some guarantee then I would probably have involved Volvo but how was I to know, and the many others on this Forum, that there was, and still is, a problem with the way Volvo have been fitting windscreens. If I approached them now they would probably just laugh and say "if you want us to do anything about a fault on a 6 year old car that you are trying to blame on Volvo dream on".

PS. Just read Des's Post - put me down as "one" whose windscreen has leaked, repair bill from National Windscreens is available as evidence.

GrantA, I was going to say that I hope those who have already paid for the issue to be sorted, have some sort of evidence to produce. Either as you have a receipt with the reason stated or the person who did the work willing to sign a statement explaining the reason.

I had a bit of a play with my car today, trying to get the water to leak out from under the car. I took it for a decent run up the motorway, then parked it nose first in the garage, set the Climate Control to HI and left it running. This is the result -

ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

At this point the engine wasn't producing enough heat to keep the engine at operating temps, as well as heating the cabin so I was forced to put a brick on the accelerator to run it at a high idle.

That is a considerable amount of water that has come from my vehicle somewhere. I haven't been out in the car yet to see whether the sloshing sound has gone but I will report back later on that.

I have had an on going problem with my 2010 xc60 screen as regards the leaking. I did a diy repair ages ago but I noticed a wet patch again in the passenger footwell today. The last time I had a leak like this was a year ago and I thought I had cured it. When I first noticed my screen leaking the car was just over the 3 year warranty although I did enquire with a dealer to see if there had been a recall for screen repairs but I was told no and I also asked if it was something that the dealer could sort out as regards repair of leaking screen also a no. So I look at it as I will have to sort this out myself, although I wouldnt buy Volvo again due to this poor practice.

GrantA .... thanks for the support ... looks like you and I could be speaking for an awful lot of people ..... go to Google, search for " Susan Morgan to Volvo - Facebook " ... that lady seems really, really, upset and also in line with our thinking.

tt82 ... Can I confirm to you that I also have receipt for replacement windscreen, from only last week, and am pretty sure my tame fitter will be more than happy to confirm the fault.

I think we're all pretty much in agreement as to the circumstances of the failure and that failure certainly does not appear to be our fault and now what's more revealing, judging by comments elsewhere, it's not only restricted to V 70's !!! ...

.... it really does appear to be sloppy manufacture and lack of adequate quality control .... I'm now on my 30th Volvo since late 1970's ( not boasting, just a high mileage job ) and this the first time I've ever, ever, had cause to complain about quality standard from Volvo ...that's not even touching on the safety aspect which Volvo (... did ?? ... ) pride themselves on.........

.... perhaps it's time to start the ball rolling, after having seen the result of the aforementioned visit to a Volvo Dealer.

Had to change my visit to the dealer to Tues 3rd due to work. At least now with the video I posted before, I have a bit more ammo to show the service staff and mechanics.

Has anybody else visited a dealer yet to discuss the issue? Obviuosly the more dealers who are contacting VCUK about this, the better our chances are!
