Default Another AWD question

Hello all, my first post on here, as I have looked for the answer but can't really understand if I have a problem with the car or it is what it is.

I have a 2004 xc90 and got it stuck trying to reverse out of a muddy field with only front wheels spinning, curious to see if it did the same going forwards with the help of a nice man in a brand new range rover who I couldn't stop from helping me. We turned it around and it seemed that the rear wheels would move about an inch every 10 seconds, it was like a snails pace as the front wheels were spinning. So my question is, is the awd on its way out or is that the best it can do, or maybe something electronic as it did move the rear wheels.
Thanks for taking the time to read this

You might be better off posting this in the XC90 section.
