Rear wheel bearing ‘how to’
Just did this last night, thought I’d make a quick how to:
1. Remove rear wheel (not before losening hub nut) 2. Remove brake calliper (2 bolts) and hang out the way 3. Remove brake disc (one 10mm bolt) 4. Remove hub nut, and use a drift to push driveshaft out the hub 5. Remove the 4 hub/bearing assembly bolts from the rear of the carrier. 6. Use a hammer to crack the hub/bearing assembly from the carrier. Refitting is the reverse of the above. Should have taken an hour or so, but my parking brake shoes made taking the disc off troublesome. Got there in the end. Access to the hub bolts is a squeeze - I used a 3/8 drive so smallish sockets. And long extenders for the lower rear holt. |

Well done. You were fortunate that the driveshaft came out easily - it can seize in the hub and make the job very difficult.
Have you fitted the adjustable expanders in the parking brake? You can adjust the shoes to give best performance for the parking brake. They also make it easier to get the disc off because you can back-off the shoes.

Good job.
You were lucky that you could get the 4 bolts that held the hub out. Mine needed lots of heat on both the bolts and on the hub itself before they would move.

I think it helped that the bearing had been replaced 6 months ago, and so removing the parts was probably easier as a result. I left the parking brake set up as was - didn't know about the adjustable expanders (and I rarely use the parking brake).

The expanders (adjusters) are not standard on the XC90 but are on other models and do fit.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-XC9...frcectupt=true You should use the parking brake regularly otherwise it will not perform well.
