XC60 Issues List (faults and user problems)

I bought my Volvo XC60 D5 AWD SE Lux Nav Auto second hand in October 2015. It was a year old, high spec, heated seats & steering wheel, active cruise control etc.

I noticed when first driving the car that it was very noisy (diesel rattle) and commented to the selling dealer. I was told it was normal. I have been in quieter London taxis.

I lov the car, but hate the noise. For a £40K when new, surely Volvo's sound deadening is better than this. I recently had a go in a friends Xc60, same year and mileage and his wasn't half as noisy as mine. I haven't been to the dealer yet, but expect to get robbed off.

Is this normal for this model of car or should I complain!

Was your friends XC60 the same 5 cylinder D5 engine which when cold may sound rough or was it the latest 4 cylinder D4 VEA engine which is a lot quieter?

It was the same engine as mine.

My XC60 tailgate (boot) latch/lock is broken and door will not lock.
Lucky still under warranty.

My March 2013 XC60 (2.4 AWD) has just been diagnosed with a leaking radiator. Sadly just out of warranty so hoping for a Volvo contribution towards replacement.

split turbo hose at 50,000 miles replaced under warranty.

broken rear coil spring discovered at first MOT.

most expensive problem to date £500 has been failure of interlock between steering wheel lock and ignition; if the sensor falsely thinks the steering is locked, engine cannot be started. Sensor replaced for <£200 by independent (Swedish Car Clinic, highly recommended), but electronic handshake has to be re-established by "proper" dealer, with all that that entails.

Radiator replaced looks like a common problem 50% from Volvo.

Own this heap of junk for 5 months and regretting every moment. Since Feb16:

1) Windscreen bonding failed - leaking on drivers side

2) Traction control cant cope with half worn front tyres and new rears. Had to replace all 4 tyres.

3) Blower motor failure. Volvo wanted £1k as whole dash has to come out. local independant slightly less.

4) failed ABS wheel sensor. Which incidentally turns off the odometer. Drove 2,500 miles and registered precisely 0 miles on the car

5) Left CV joint noisy

6) Clonk on suspension when turning right.

7) Just started to whine on overrun in second gear.

8) cant blame the car for this one but the muppet that set the wheel alignment on tyre change set the geometry for some other car so destroyed my rear tyres in less than 2k miles.

And it's passed every MOT with no advisories and has full History. Quite possibly the worst car I've had the misfortune of buying. If I didnt need it for towing and hate the look of 99% of 4x4's it'd be gone in a flash.

All problems started precisely 2 weeks after my warranty ran out :-(. To think i got rid of a 130k mile Passat with precisely nothing wrong to get a premium brand car with way less miles and hopefully trouble free motoring!!

On the plus side, if i turn up the stereo the suspension and gearbox noises magically go away.
