Quarter Light Problems
Hi,
The pin that holds the quarter light broke on my Amazon. I took it apart, but I'm not sure how bad the situation is. The black frame that holds the window section seems to be pretty out of shape. There is a large gap at the front corner (see photo). Should the black frame be a similar "shape" to the chrome window frame that fits into it? The misalignment of the black frame and the chrome frame leads to the edge catching making it impossible to open the window. The pin that came out is bent (see photo). The parts book is not clear (to me) about the orientation of the pin. Should it be at 90 degrees to the frame or at an angle? I'm aiming to replace the pin with a machine screw where I will need to modify the head to make it square so that it fits into the window frame channel. Is there a better fix here? Really struggling to work out how best to fix this so that the quarter light opens and closes again. I have a new rubber seal and the all important rivets (but no specialist rivet tool). Can anyone help with suggestions? Thanks, Ed |

Has someone been in there with a screwdriver for an attempted break in? Some straightening looks to be needed. Perhaps better to see if you can get a better one as that has seen better days.
For the sunken rivets this might help. You need to make a short tubular spacer between the tool and the head of the rivet. |

Thanks Derek.
I’m not aware of anyone trying to break in to the car. I took a lot of care when removing the frame so I don’t think I was the cause of the problem. Brookhouse sells bare replacement frames. I was hoping to avoid taking off all of the riveted parts and adding them to a new frame, but if you’re telling me that the current frame is too far gone then I guess that’s what I’ll need to do :-( Do you happen to know if the pin on the chrome inner frame is at 90 degrees to the frame or at an angle? |

The bottom swivel pin is at 90 degrees to the inner frame. The outer frame should run parallel to the inner chrome frame.
20 years ago I had to weld and repair the outer frames and build up the corroded bottom swivel pins, as new frames were non existent. It may be a better option for you to locate a good complete item. Chris. |
