Default Lambda 850 Fuse?

Seen a posting which advices that you can cancel the Lambda light by removing the ECU fuse for 15secs and replacing. The advice was that it was the large red fuse near windscreen on a T5.
Does anyone know if there's an equivalent on a M reg 850 estate 2.0L? Had a look and couldn't see an obvious one (either large and ed or noted as ECU fuse in handbook).

Why would you want to cancel the Lambda warning light? If the lamp is on then there should be fault codes associated with it. Have you pulled the codes and sorted the problems that caused them to be stored?

Once the codes have been read and cancelled the light should extinguish, if it comes back on then there is still a problem that needs attention.

I suspect the posting regarding the fuse was in the context of resetting the ECU. Sometimes after faults are logged and subsequently sorted, the ECU is slow to readjust itself. You can force the ECU to return to factory default settings by disconnecting the power from it (usually by disconnecting the vehicle battery) for a while - usually a matter of 10 or so minutes. If you do this make sure that you have the radio security code before you power down.

You can clear the fault codes by disconnecting the battery, but it will return if there is still a problem...

Thanks for the prompt replies....

Already been garage reset 2x in last 20,000 miles or so. The 1st time it went, I presume they read the codes and implied that it might be a 'one-off' and reset it (which it obviously isn't) but that if not, then might be an 'expensive problem'. If I remember correctly it involved replacing the MAF sensor (but see below for my caution about following this advice).

Would like to check possible causes myself as need to save as much money as possible. Can I do this without the £100 piece of hardware/software I've read about elsewhere that reads the codes? i.e. can I read basic codes without this equipment? Or is it a matter of
a) biting bullet and taking to garage to sort.
b) buying the code reader and fixing what it says.
c) looking for likely problems myself (hoses etc).

I have had bad expereines with Volvo garages in the past, for eaxmaple charging me 00's of £s chasing a cuting out problem (charging spark plugs, oil etc etc) which I eventually fixed myself with 'your' help on this web site in 5 mins with a new £15 relay. Every time I take my Volvo in they change anything that looks like it's non-Volvo or old and are not interested in finding the real cause, just an explainable bit to replace. I can't afford this.

Cheers

Do you have the diagnostic reader in the engine bay, or the OBD port under the coin holder in front of the gearstick?
With either of these it's pretty simple to read the codes.
Then it's a case of making the best guess as to what may be wrong.
Twice in 20,000 miles doesn't seem like a major problem unless you can fell that something is wrong as well.

Hi,

yes you should be able to read the codes yourself on the M reg model. Under the bonnet just by the Off side Headlight there are two rectangular caps about 2" x 1". Under these are sockets that you plug the flying lead (that's attached to the caps) into.

For the full proceedure and the meaning of the fault codes a Haynes manual is a good start.

Cheers

If you cant find the fuse just open the box behind the drivers headlight that holds the ecu and remove it.
