Default Rear quarter-lights - advice needed

Hi guys,

The previous owner of my 240, a neighbour, once went round the window frames with paint stripper to uncover the chrome beneath. Unfortunately, the rear quarter-light is not painted chrome but something else entirely, and this has left the car with a slightly odd appearance:

Does anyone know if the chrome quarter-light from a 244 or 144 would fit? Or would anyone like to suggest an alternative? I have a possible idea of my own, but I would appreciate any thoughts you guys might have.

Thanks,
John.

The aperture is the same as early cars so an early chrome one should fit.

Thanks - that's good news! I'll start looking, but if anyone has a pair they'd like to sell, let me know.

John.

The early chrome ones dont cover as much as the later black ones do, you can see the rubber seal along the side edge and where it meets the door, the crome only follows the roof line, and the thin moulding along the bottom of the window, so not sure if the rubber under your black trim is the same but just covered up.

Have your thought about just painting the chrome Black again?

I am interested in all solutions to your problem as I have a driver door Trim which is pock marked where you can see the chrome underneath. all the other door trims are perfect.

I have thought about spraying this Black but am afraid that the repair would be too obvious and worse than its current state.

I can understand why the previous owner attacked the doors with paint stripper.

I definitely considered it, but to be honest I rather like the chrome look. My neighbour told me once that he had had the same quandary - one or two little nicks out of the black coating round the driver's window. He thought about repainting the lot but, as an experiment, he stripped a bit and decided that he liked the look of the chrome.

Now I'm just looking for a pair of quarter-lights to finish the job!

Hi John I thought your car looked really nice but also my eye was drawn to the rear quarter lites.I think the chrome looks spot on.But then again I have a reputation for liking it.

I hope you can retrofit the chrome surrounds as it really suits your car.
I think your car is a real cracker and secretly covet it.
Regards Brian.

Thanks Brian! I'll be coming up to Oxford to visit a friend in the next few weeks, so if you're about you could always covet it at close range with a pint!

I'll be on the lookout for a late 244 pair of quarter-lights then, and in the meantime I might get out some more of that naff adhesive chrome strip to see how it looks.

Thanks for the advice chaps!
John.
