Yes there was mention of it. It is in the sticky thread at the top of the forum page. That was a good 2 years ago though, so I am not sure if still the case. Also I am not sure if it only referred to the failures caused by the well known clutch pack failure.

Default XC90 2017 Inscription Pro

Bought a used XC90 2017 less than 3 months ago and the drive just went exactly liked described in the comments above. Took it to Volvo Dublin, they said it was the ERAD and that cost is 9000+!
I just wanted to ask if this part is likely to be available through someplace else like an autoyard? I asked the dealer and he said it was not part of the engine or the gearbox which he gave a warranty for. I am not happy.

I have seen secondhand erads for sale on ebay from crashed T8s yes.

Please check it is not repairable first. As I said above Volvo dealers have been rebuilding them due to clutch pack failures and this is a circa 3k job. Your failure could of course be something else.

Wow, that's way above the usual £3,500ish I've seen mentioned for a new ERAD.

An ERAD rebuild is indeed circa 3.5k GBP. A replacement ERAD is also correct at roughly 9k GBP.

Ouchie! How can a ERAD cost more than a budget car? Utter madness!

It's a major, complex component of a car from a decent marque, they are produced in fairly small numbers and Volvo need to take a profit on it.

Not any more expensive than prime parts on other cars. If you think £9k is expensive, you should look at some of the prices of Rolls Royce, Ferrari parts. Eg, the dimming sunroof from the first gen Maybach will set you back £50k, and that not fitted!

Default ERAD & IEM fault codes

My car is a 2019 Volvo xc90 t8 hyrbrid inscription pro, recently it has been juddering while driving, I took it to Volvo and they said you need to replace ERAD and IEM (inverter electronic module) and that it would cost £10,173.66, as it’s out of warranty, I’ve contacted maybe 10 different garages, 4 Volvo specialists and nobody could help, I emailed Volvo directly three times and they are yet to respond, I cannot afford that much to fix my car, does anyone at all know where I can get it sorted, or even refurbed, I love my car but can’t afford that repair cost, it’s insane, I can buy a car for that much.

Your car can't be that far out of warranty?? Does it have a full service history? If so, Volvo may offer a contribution towards the repair. Have you asked?
