Got to disagree with Austin 160. I have an 03, T5 and to say I like it is an understatement. Brilliant engine which I can reach 33mpg frequently and less if I chase her. I wasn't aware until recently that Tom Walkingshaw Racing was involved in the development and handling of the car. It is beautifully balanced and probably the best seats ever in any of my Volvos over the years. And even the wife agrees! Now had it for two and half years and no desire to sell her.
Just replaced the springs and front shockers and so it is a bit quieter. Boot is rather useless but I don't need it much. So overall, I love my C70 and in its pearlescent blue polished up it's an absolute cracker. Try and get a T5. Last edited by Dibble; May 19th, 2020 at 22:46. |

I'm very surprised someone called the c70 convertible noisy and can only imagine a seal or similar was gone in their car. My 04 c70 was one of the most refined convertibles I have owned. Yes, they are a bit wobbly with scuttle shake, but that was perhaps an issue for me lwss than 5% of the time I owned it. Turning circle is dreadful. I never felt the 2.0 underpowered as I drove it like the big, comfy cruiser it was but agree it was juicy . As Bob says, t5, or maybe the sweet spot 2.4 n/a are the best engines.

The scuttle shake goes with the territory and we got used to it. Once you know what it is it isn’t a problem.
The comfy seats also came with the territory and we certainly got used to those. The 2 litre engine sounded brilliant but it did have to work relatively hard. There were no issues with seals. The noise was because it had a soft top. Both examples I drove were noisy. The coupe was far better in that respect. My wife was happy with her C70 soft top and she ran it for four years, but she does prefer her new 2015 V60 D3 Geartronic. Agree about the big comfy cruiser bit. It reminded me of the old days, and I imagine that cars like the Alvis TD and TE offered a similar driving experience. Pure class. The upgraded stereo was also great although I suspect that the speaker crossovers were probably in need of some new components. Last edited by Sotosound; May 20th, 2020 at 21:43. |

It's not until you experience a diesel with more than 4 cylinders that you realise they can be quite a pleasant engine. I've not got my C70 D5 anymore (sold it to a work colleague) but can heartily recommend them, or the 2.0 D3, in fact I'd say it makes more sense if you're doing some mileage.

I don’t do a great deal of mileage, but what I do is many long-ish trips, we use Mrs B’s petrol Nissan around town, so I think it’s the type, rather than the amount of mileage a diesel does that matters most. IMHO anyway....
