So had new discs new handbrake shoes new backplates and the handbrake is still “weak” does it adjust from the lever as well?
How easy is it to fit new cables?

The handbrake on the V70 should only have an adjuster on the cable at the handbrake lever, if you have the 850 style adjusters fitted you need to back off the cable before adjusting the 850 style adjusters. I fitted new handbrake shoes to my V70 last week, I don't have the 850 adjusters and I can adjust my handbrake to lock at 1 click, but as I have a slightly sticky cable I've set it to 3 clicks

Fitting new cables is fun, and not for the faint hearted. There is a good youtube video that shows how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTLZuz70nEk

Might be best to see if both cables are moving freely inside their respective tubes (may need two people, one to wiggle, one to watch), and that the handbrake adjuster on the centre console is correctly adjusted, before planning replacement.

yes there is an adjuster in the centre console. under the handbrake boot. have you used genuine volvo shoes in the hand brake. after market ones tend to be inferior quality . ask me how i know. replacing cables is fairly easy pull the new ones through with the old ones. any update on a replacement key yet hoj

if you remember to tie strings to the end of the old ones, then pulling the new ones back through is a lot easier afterwards (like using a draw wire to pull a piece of cabling through containment / ducting etc)

you do still need to lift the carpets a bit though which is a nuisance

lets not get into the oft-argued-about fitting of rear adjusters other than to say they are available should you decide you want them
