DIY vehicle tracking gizmos
Has anybody used/have experience of something like this:
https://www.rewiresecurity.co.uk/db2...iy-gps-tracker [there are other makes around!] I’m not sure about direct wiring to the battery as it might be a bit too obvious for a half intelligent car thief; thought maybe hiding it somewhere in the car and connecting to a perm live feed? For a relatively small outlay and annual top up it doesn’t seem too bad an idea? Thoughts?

Hi Bilbo
Have been running two of these devices for over three years now ( first one was the older version but same principle. One is wired in the boot and is not exactly “overt” but if a rapscallion were to look for it, then it would not take too much effort to find it..... The other one is much more “covert” and is hidden within the structure of the vehicle. My reasoning being is that if said ne’erdowell were to locate the “overt “ one, then they wouldn’t spend too much time looking for another one. (Works in my head !!) They work absolutely fine and the newer one gives a much better tracking signal than the old one, and follows the route travelled much more in line with the roads than the original which often tended to track “cross-country” due to the time lapse between signals sent. (Hope that makes sense) For the initial outlay and the fact that they cost very little to run, then it was a no-brainer for me on a car that cost twice as much as the first house that I bought. Glad to answer any questions that you may have. Rob

Cheers Rob. That makes a lot of sense. Looking like I have found another lockdown job to do then. Now I just need to work out where to wire it into.
