Phase 1 - Lock alarm control in center console?
Hello,
the fobs of my Volvo V40 phase 1 are not working. The central locking works with the key and the switch in the center console. I´m now wondering if my Phase 1 also got a Lock alarm control unit under the stereo. If not, what is the alternative Phase 1 unit and where can I find it? I would be grateful if you can answer my questions. The car is a Volvo V40, 2/98, 1.6l, 105PS, 9101-765, LHD. Greetings Ric |

As ww1dm1 has already said, the lock alarm module on earlier Phase 1 models (1996-mid 1999) without the CEM, is behind the cover on the driver's footwell
The module is quite reliable and does not normally fail though.

Alarm control unit
Hi, does the alarm control unit contain the infamous battery for Phase 1 cars? Unfortunately the photo links are dead, but think I can manage based on the descriptions. Would love to know if this is where the alarm battery is on my 1997 v40 (it was not under the main battery). Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Gatos. Under the battery tray all I could find was this horn, connected by a 2-prong wire that led under the airbox into a larger bundle (couldn't easily trace further but also didn't see a square alarm module anywhere). This horn doesn't seem like it would container a battery, nor did it's removal have any effect on the alarm circuit and flashing lights.
The alarm control module (grey box) I found under the steering wheel, about near my left knee, by removing a plastic shield. Unplugging it has solved the issue of driveability for now, as the flashers for the alarm are now disabled. Manual key entry only now of course. |

Images didn't seem to upload. Here you can catch a glimpse before I dispatch it to the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

Is it possible that someone has fitted some sort of aftermarket alarm?
