XC90 D5244T 2004 Engine problems
Hi,
I have just had a new turbo fitted and all the injectors ultrasonically cleaned to try and resolve the engine problems my car has been suffering from. The first turbo my garage fitted lasted four days and then blew up. The garage has now replaced it, but is saying that cylinders 4 and 5 are down on pressure and that it is probably down to the head gasket, but cannot be positive. My question is could the turbo blowing up have caused the problem with the cylinders? If not does anyone have any experience of using the following two Halfords product - Holts Wondarweld & Holts Radweld plus as a possible cheap fix to the head gasket / cylinder pressure problems ? Thanks Peter |

The only reason two turbochargers would fail in such a short time is oil supply . Perhaps the line is coked up but surely the people who replaced the turbo would have checked the oil supply to the turbocharger? I hope so or your third one wont be lasting very long ..
What do they mean by cylinders 4 and 5 are down on pressure ? Have they done a compression test ? Its unheard of for a D5 to have headgasket problems unles it has run out of coolant and overheated ...

Thanks for the reply. The first turbo was worn and needed replacing. When they put the first new turbo on they did say the pipes needed to be cleaned because they were full of oil. They did a pressure test on the engine and said cylinder 5 is down about 75% and cylinder 4 down by 20%. Because the two cylinders were side by side they said there was a good chance it was the head gasket. I have had the car about 6 months and it has had no problems with overheating or coolant levels. Thanks Peter |
