I have 6 pictures of the pipe arrangement on a B20 head. One with the tube out of the head. I can post them here if you think it would be useful. If you can take out the plug you might be able rod it out to see if sludge ahs settled at the back. If you managed to get the one out of the head you'll see that the slots get smaller as they go towards the back. I'd imagine that tries to help with the temperature gradient form front to back but with 6 pots to manage the B30 ones at the back might be smaller than the final B20 one. This will increase the chance of blockage. Depending what you can get out with a length of brazing rod (small hook on one end to pull out what you dislodge with the other end) for example, or you might be able to get a gun cleaning brush down there. A thin bore tube that will go to the end could be hitched up to a pressure washer maybe? Then use an air line? It won't be easy to tell what you are getting out if it all breaks up and washes out but worth a try.
Maybe a citric acid flush to finish off after the plug is back in.

Derek,

Yes, if you could post the pics, that'd be great. Not sure whether or not they'll end up being useful, but I obviously need to try to learn as much as I can on this.

Your suggestions are pretty much what I was thinking I might end up trying, I just wish I could get some concrete feedback from someone so that I'd know whether or not this would be just a waste of time or something that would have a real chance of fixing the problem. Really don't want to go through doing this just to find out that pulling the head is the only real way to take care of it.

Definitely appreciate all of your responses!

Thanks,

Stan

One of my resto guys said to try a "good system-flushing agent". He offers that solely based on your post, as he has not had direct experience with the problem. I'm still waiting on another opinion. I'll post here when I hear from him.
