Oh Bug**r, just ordered a new XC90 yesterday…
My new XC90 is ether going to be the very last of the good ones coming out of the Swedish Torslanda Plant as long as the factory workers there are truly happy with the sale of Volvo to Geely. Or It’s going to end up being the biggest pile of s**t with very unhappy Torslanda Plant workers and end up as good as the Chinese JiangLing Landwind…! The other big, big question is how this will affect residual values of Volvo cars in the UK? Can’t see it going in the right direction somehow. God help us all… |

Worth watching the press conference if you have the time. Interestingly, the chap from Ford looks pretty unhappy about the sale, and both he and the Geely chairman look nervous and uncomfortable. But the CEO of Volvo, when he speaks, is very complimentary and thankful to Ford and to Geely and seems very positive about the future of the brand. I think this might be a good thing!
Odell (CEO of Volvo) is very upbeat about sales and future development. Faster recovery than any other premium brand manufacturer. Talking about upping production capacity to meet demand. All very positive comment. Fingers crossed! |

I dont know how to perceive this deal.
It might not be such a bad thing, the Chinese seem to make most things these days anyway. And they typically have a stronger work ethic than the Americans, so perhaps Chinese ownership is a good thing for Volvo. Jagaur appear to be doing ok under Tata. I had reservations that they would take a nose dive since Tata where renound for building the worlds cheapest car. Only time will tell, and since I have paid my deposit, I have no choice but to hope for the best. |

I saw lots of mutual back slapping and accolades between the three parties as well as tributes to Volvo employees, dealers, unions and so on. No mention of the customers though, interesting...
Odell referred to a V60, anyone know what that is? |

I'm thinking this will be a good thing, it will boost the company coffers and that means more money on development etc and ensure the company will survive long enough to honor our three year warranties and free servicing..
Let's just hope that their current designers do not get transfered to Sweden, they make some shocking looking cars...
