There is no radio as such , it is made up from different modules around the car linked together with fibre optic for the sound and control signals, the modules are all coded to the car . . It will require professional diagnosis ..

The Display ( Infotainment control Module )
The Amplifier under the seat ( AUD )
The Tuner (under that plastic panel on the back of the roof )
The Multimedia Module ( Cd Player )
The Climate module looks after the knob functions .

You have bought someone else's problem which could be costly to fix .

The parking sensors and RTI ( navigation ) And On Call if you have it , share all the above too .

One thing you could do it get access to the back of the display and take the fibre optic plug out .. turn it on or turn on ignition and you should get a flashing laser light coming out of the display Fibre optic port , it will flash for about 10 seconds until it gives up looking for the other modules . That is a hopeful sign !

Hi, as explained, Thwre are lots of module involved here, primarily the information control module (ICM). This is the bit on the dash that should have a display. If this unit is faulty or the MOST fibre optic loop has failed, the radio/cd, park sensors, sat nav and phone will be AWOL.

You really should get error codes read by a garage with Vida, that is the Volvo specific system designed to diagnose and assist in fixing such problems.

I suggest you find a good Volvo indie in your area or perhaps a local forum member can assist.

But I suggest do not simply buy bits and throw them at the problem

Your best investment, if you are handy is to invest in Vida dice diagnostic tools, but you do need to understand what you are looking at if you go this route.

If it happens that your ICM is faulty, get to know a company called 'volvo diagnostics' based at rainham in Essex. They will repair your ICM with a lifetime warranty.

They certainly fixed mine.

Hope this helps

so you took the display panel out and pulled out the fibre optic plug with the orange fibre cables , turned the ignition on and red light flashed for about 10 seconds , coming from the display plug not the pulled out fibre optic plug ?
The display originates the fibre optic signal you see , and passes it on to the next module which in turn sends it on to the next . it might go through 6 or 7 modules before returning to the display through the other orange cable , it is a large ring circuit in series . a dead module ( apart from the display which is the master unit generating the first pulse of light ) will have light going in from the cable but will not be re transmitting it out ...
