We've just been through France in an XC60 with a roof box, I measured the car height as a little over 2m so didn't go through the lanes with roof barriers. Looking at our receipts we were charged Class 1 tarifs.

The article says to call 0 892 303 303 but it cost Euro 0.34 per minutes and I guess this is for SANEF only. Might be worthwhile checking their website too,

Check this out !

http://www.sanef.com/fr/services/pdf...s_juin2009.pdf

It says that if your vehicle when fitted with a roofbox is higher than 2m, you MUST go to a non automated booth to ensure that you are charged Class 1 !

i drove from Calais, past Rouen to Le Mann towards Anglers on the way there. then back towards Caen via Le Mann.

I have to admit i only noticed on a few, but even when the barrier stuck down and the attendant came out to lift it and i queried the class 2, he pointed at the box and guestered us to be on our way.

i'll make sure next time that we aim for the manned booths next time.

i am sure that 1000's must get caught out without realising, as i only noticed on the way back when my In-Laws in front were paying less.

I think the article meant that when it comes to paying you need to go to non automated, while you seem to mention that you got the ticket from the higher distributor due to the height of your vehicle. Eventhough, you could have claimed class 1 if gone to a non automated payment booth.
