Default Cancellation

Hi everyone.

I am in a bit of trouble and want to know what I should expect before calling my dealer.

I have placed an order for a 2011 MY XC90 Executive. I paid a Ł1000 deposit.

I understand the orders are not actually being sent to Sweden until mid April.

I have just been informed that I am to lose my job. I want to cancel the order. Do you think the dealership will let me back out of the contract?

What a mess.

As you say what a mess, but more accurately how unfortunate.

Hopefully if you explain your predicament then the dealership will see sense and refund your deposit, though you are preying on their better nature for the refund as you have signed a contract.

It may be that you will find a job as part of your redundancy and you could reorder the car when your finances are stabilised?

I am sorry to hear of your circumstances.

If you cancel within 14 days you would usually get a full refund of your deposit. I did this with a dealer in December because another dealer gave me a much better deal and I had no difficulty.

If over that time period, then as stated, I am sure the dealership will show some understanding - it won't have cost them anything and surely they will find another customer to take the slot as the build specification can still be modified.

Good luck and positive vibes looking for a new role.

Great timing - not...

I had the same situation some years ago with an X5 order. I just explained my situation to the dealer and they had no problem in refunding my deposit as my build slot would be easily filled by someone else.

Also from the dealers perspective I would most likely be a customer again when things improved with my personal situation - which is exactly what happened!

It's not really in a luxury dealers interest to p**s you off, cheap end dealers might be more cut throat.

Hope things turn around soon.

Sorry to hear your news, but when I placed my deposit for an XC60 order the dealer told me that I could cancel at any point until the final specs came through because no-one really knew what the price changes and new specs would be.

I think you should be fine, and if you don't want to tell all, I think you could get your refund on the fact that you are still waiting to be able to order (and this whole thing is taking longer than anyone was told).

Good luck

Sorry to hear about your job loss. Never a great timing!

Normally, I think you would loose your deposit, but the best would be to speak to your dealer and tell them exactly what's going on. Hopefully they will have a heart.

Just keep in mind that you did enter a contract and by ending it, you may still have to pay (bastards!).

In light of your circumstances I would be really disappointed in any Volvo dealer who did not refund your money. It's not like you have changed your mind and just want your money back is it?

Good luck and all the best with your consultation process re- work.

Hopefully as neither the 2011 spec nor price is finally comfirmed there is a let out anyway. Good luck.
