Default creaking clutch cable

I've noticed a loud creaking when I use the clutch in my '93/L 480 ES 2.0i.

The last time I experienced anything similar was in a Citroen Xantia, when after a year or so of creaking a plastic clip connecting the pedal to the cable cracked and left me with no clutch.

However, I've also read (in Practical Classics) that there are problems with clutch cables seizing on 480s leading to bulkhead damage.

Additionally I've noticed that, particularly when cold, changing down from 3rd to 2nd gear causes a hard jerk rather than simply raising the revs smoothly on engaging the clutch. All the other gears change smoothly.

Do I need to change my clutch cable, and is there anything else I should be looking at?

Many thanks,

Ed

Disconnect the clutch cabel of the clutch arm, and try it then, if its smooth, its not the cable. Mine was the pivot point for the clutch arm in the bell housing gone dry. It resulted in a kangoroo'ing effect when changing gear. WD40 with a firmly attached pipe pointed into the bellhousing at the pivot point cured the problem for good. Discovered this after replacing the cable(a nightmare job) and still having the same problem.

Thanks for the advice, I'll take a look when I have a moment.
