Well, as mentioned, went to view it, took it for a test drive and that was that!

Blue 1987 2.0 240 GL
Best 500 euros I ever spent, came with 10 months MOT and a mint set of studded winter wheels, studs are a bit worn but the tread is like new. They will be going on in the next couple weeks no doubt.

Doesn't have the K-Jet injection as I thought it might, it has always been on carbs the guy said but he replaced the twin carb with a single, and every now again you have to top up the carb with auto transmission fluid! Anyone heard of such a system! lol!

Couple issues,
surface rust here and there
Paintwork is tired (but I am detailing the car tomorrow)
heated seats don't work
front spots don't work
slight run on after switching engine off (the guy runs it on 98 could be the cause?)

All in all I am very happy and I can honestly say it's my first proper Volvo because my S40 is ****e.

Not Gislaved, but Bridgestone Noranza 2, I wasn't aware Bridgestones did studded tyres but these are only available in Scandinavia and Baltic countries so they should do the biz. Last winter I survived in Finland with my UK non-studded winter tyres, just about mind. EDIT: But that was on FWD....

That's a bit of a bargain. I especially like the chrome around the tailgate window. Can't help but notice it seems to be missing the headlight wipers. Has someone taken them off or were they not available for that market?

Thanks for pointing that out Beetledrive, it is strange it doesn't have them, as 99% of cars do have a wash or wiper system fitted to headlights here. Maybe they failed and someone took them off in the past rather than fixing them.... I will certainly look into it and aim to retrofit them again if possible.

Also the centre brake light doesn't work, is this a common problem?

I'm sure someone else will come up with a more comprehensive answer but I think the older style tailgate suffered from leaks and rust. If it's anything like ours then this might also be why your rear wiper might not work (and possibly the tailgate central locking). Luckily (although I didn't do it myself) this should be fairly easy to correct by applying some TLC to the wiring sticking out of the top of the tailgate hinges (I think it's here that they had snapped). If the tailgate has leaked you might also have crusty bits/holes in the section under the trim that links to the rear bumper, the same section inside the boot (lift the floor lid up and feel underneath towards the bumper), and you might see some holes if you look underneath the car where the bumper meets the bodywork! It's no surprise Volvo replaced it with the flat design similar to the 740

The carb may be a Stromberg or SU. My 1971 144 had a single Stromberg which never gave any problems.

Looks a good buy for the money I wish I had some winter tyres!!

The tailgate wiring replacement isn't too bad to do. My wiper and demist didn't work. Broken wires through tailgate hinges. About £15 to buy the new harnesses.

I love the 240 series
