Default P80 V70R Nivomat bushes

Hi, Does anyone know where i can get replacement bottom bushes (and possibly bellows) for Nivomats? They work fine but the bottom bushes are done. Can't find replacements anywhere.
TIA

The bottom bushing/fitting on a Nivomat screws on to the piston. However, you do need something rather meaty to get then to shift!!

I have never has to replace the rubber/metal of the bush fitting, but the rubber is moulded to the metal so it would mean a new part complete bottom bushing if yours are 'gone'.

Once unscrewed it is a very simple matter to slip on a new rubber gaiter over the piston which I know from experience are available from your local main dealer for about £15 on next day delivery. It may be that they can supply a bottom bushing but I have never had the need to enquire.

My comments are based on personal experience on Nivos fitted to a 745. All Nivos are of the same basic design principal.

I have various Nivomats (FWD and AWD types) that need new bottom bushes and gaiters.

I have read in various places somewhere about cutting out the old bushes, and pouring a new bush in place.
I think some people have used urethane windscreen sealant, or various two part compounds.

I have tried to unscrew the bottom housing from the shaft, but I didn't have any special tools, and gave up.

I would like to know what gaiters fit, and how to fit them over the bottom fittings if those cannot be removed. If anyone sources some, please let us know.

Steve

You will get new gaiters from Volvo.

By 'meaty', I meant to unscrew you will need a very large vice with aircraft quality aluminum slot-in jaws (to avoid damage to the piston), something like a 30" Stilson wrench, and a length of pipe!! The thread is a conventional right handed one (anti-clockwise to unscrew) and has thread lock on it.

It had been suggested to me that you could put a new gaiter on over the bottom bush by softening it up in boiling water or using silicone grease.
I reckoned it was more or less impossible to fit a new gaiter over the bottom bushing, but it is large on a 745. I have seen some from other models that have a slightly different and thinner bottom bush fitting.

.... so I guess the answer is 'rip' out the old, and re-assemble with the new.

I have a feeling that you won't find 'dealers' selling replacement bottom bushes, or the whole bottom Sach Nivo screw bush/fitting, but I have never had the need to replace!!

Please do put up a subsequent post to say how you got on with it your enquires, or the fitting of poly bushes from Energize on eBay, as I would be most interested for my maybe V70, and my 700 Series, should I or any others need to replace the bottom bushing on a Nivo. It is so difficult to get definitive info on the subject!

Cheers, Bob

FYI .... as said, I sent them an email:

Hi - you have these V70 rear shock bottom bushings on ebay. A lot of Volvo V70's are fitted with Sach Nivomat self-leveling suspension units (not conventional shocks) on the back end which support and adjust the back end once moving, and don't 'bounce' like ordinary shocks.

Simple question ... do these bushings fit the lower bush at the end of the piston on a Sach Nivomat?

and they have replied:

Hey Bob,
I have to admit I don't know the answer I'm afraid, this is a rear lower shock bush but I would imagine would only fit a standard shock

So who knows if they told you they did!!!
