Advice automatic volvo v60 2.0d 163hp
Hello, i am about to buy a used volvo v60(2013), equiped with the 163 hp 2.0l engine. I do have also an xc60 d5, but i heard that the 2.0d 163hp engines on the volvo v60 are made by ford?! Or they are not made by volvo? Are these engines reliable? Do they have some major issues? I would like to recieve some advices about this engine.Or should i go for the 2.4 l engine? Also the v60 comes with an automatic gearbox, should i go for it or shoul i look for another v60?
Thank you, Denis. |

I believe (sure someone will correct me) is the 2.0 5cyl engine is a Volvo engine and the 1.6 is a Peugeot engine. Below is an extract from a thread you can read that might be some use.
The information on Autotrader can be misleading. When the S60 and V60 were launched, there were 3 diesel engines: the D2 1.6 litre 4-cylinder; D3 2.0 5-cylinder with 163bhp; and the D5 2.4 5-cylinder twin turbo. This range of motors was used in 2010 and 2011. Then in 2012, Volvo introduced a detuned variant of the 2.0 5-cylinder diesel, with 136bhp. This variant took the D3 name, and the D4 name was given to the full 163bhp 2.0 5-cylinder engine. There was also a special D4 in all-wheel drive models, but we will ignore that for now! Then of course in 2014, Volvo introduced the new VEA 4-cylinder diesel with 181bhp, and they called that the D4, and dropped the old 163bhp 5-cylinder diesel. But the D3 continued to be the 136bhp 5-cylinder diesel. Clear as mud, isn't it To make sure you get the right engine, a full-fat 163bhp D3 2.0 5-cylinder will have the engine code D5204T2 or D5204T3. A 136bhp D3 has the engine code D5204T7. If buying from a Volvo dealer, they should be able to tell you this. A D4 with the 5-cylinder motor will always be the 163bhp variant. https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...=163bhp+engine The 5-cylinder D3/4/5 motors are all pure Volvo. only thing we change on them is usually a boost pressure sensor, around 100k or so, the sensor doesn't cost much, I forget off hand but i'm sure its under £150 fitted with VAT
Personally I think the 2.0 5 cylinder is an excellent engine, in some ways nicer than the 2.4, feels a lot smoother to me, still get that grunt and it sounds great Honestly, if I was buying a V60 I would get the 2.0 5 cylinder one, this coming from someone who has V60 with a 2.4 in it, I really wish Volvo made the hybrid with the 2.0 5 pot! |

Thank you guys a lot , yesterday was "the big day", i bought the car and drove it almost 150km, the car feels so smooth, and the engine is making such a nice sound combined with the automatic gearbox. Went for the 163bhp engine code D5204T3. I am purely mindblown by the consumption of this car, i got 5.7L/100km. Overall the car feels good, much safer than an 1 series( the main reason i went for this volvo is because i had an 1 series and it was way to powerfull and it got the RWD, also the cons was huge, somewhere around 13L/100km). Thank you guys a lot for helping me!
