Default Anyone used Volvo touch up kit?

Evening all,

Has anyone used the Volvo touchup kit that comes with the base and clear? Base has the little pad on top with you wet and then dab the paint with.

Just looking for some tips if possible for using one....

I've used one on my Ice White with good results on small chips. I think you will find the pad on the top of the base coat is to blend the repair after the clear coat has cured in order to blend it in.

To get the best results it is imperative to gradually build up the repair with the base coat. I found that having hardly any paint on the brush, apply to the chip, let dry and repeat as many times as necessary until the chip is a colour match to the surrounding colour then apply the clear coat when the base has dried.

If any of the chips are really small it is possible to apply the paint into the chip using a cocktail stick

Patience is key, don't just dab a blob on as thats what the final result will look like.

As he said ^^^^^^^ The Volvo touch in kits are far, far, superior to the ones Halfrauds and the like sell.

I'd second the suggestion to use a cocktail stick to apply using capillary action.
In the past I've had the best success by leaving a slightly proud blob for a week or so to fully cure before flatting it gently with a small square of 1500 then 3000 grit wet and dry until completely flush.
Then its a case of polishing the localised area until the shine is restored.
Finish the whole panel with a good wax and Robert's your Mothers Brother !

Thanks guys, always an advocate of lots of thin coats when painting! Pad according the guide is for blending the base coat. Shame they didn’t actually put some words with the pictures!

I've had a decent bit of success with it, firstly i was amazed at how cheap it was. I used an absolutely tiny art brush and applied loads of thin coats, left it a while, wet sanded, compounded, polished and now it's pretty flawless

Have just done the rear passenger door on my V70 with nautic blue metallic,
I stupidly scraped it on a concrete post in a multistorey car park trying to get a large car i to a small space.
To be honest it looked a bit of a mess and i initially thought its a trip to Chips away but i have had a go and to my surprise it looks really good. Not 100% but you have to be close up to really notice.
As said previously only use the genuine volvo paint as it does blend in well.

What are they like for colour match given that, for example my 850, is 24 years old so surely will have faded a bit?

My V70 is 20 years old and the colour match is very good.i am really pleased.
Loads of videos on you tube to point you in the right direction.
I am usually useless doing these kind of things but the finish as come out rather well.

That's good to hear, I'm not so handy myself! I've just ordered a kit from Volvo for mine.
