Default Power steering pumps compatibility

Are all the power steering pumps in the v70 p2 range identical over the years?
Are they the same for diesel and petrol cars?
Are there any differences in fittings /hose connectors?
Are the pulley diameters all the same?

Looking at sourcing another pump for my 06 d5 xc70.

Would one from an 00/01 petrol xc70 fit?

What is the problem with the pump ?

On petrol engines
2001-2003/4(ish) SMI rack, tie rod genuine gaiters are stamped SMI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxdHQt_XDhw
2004ish-up ZF rack

The whole power steering and rack system changed somewhere in 2004 I believe. Everything is different: reservoir with it's low pressure hose, pump (different fittings), lines, steering rack, lower couper, inner tie rods (and perhaps outer ones).

You can only swap the whole system (all parts). This is a north american car, complete ZF 2004up system swapped in place of a SMI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgVRA-DM6fY

The reservoir fits both systems as long as it has the right low pressure hose

Can't answer for XC70, or diesel engine. Side note, on 2001-2003 S60/V70, the pump from early XC90 (120bar) can be fitted and has a smaller pulley, which makes removing the belt much easier (less tension)

See my other thread on pas noise.

Was considering swapping pumps on the two cars to see if they noise followed.

On the D5 , there are two different diameter pulleys with the early pipe outlet. With different belt lengths. Not sure about the later cars.
The later cars have a different type of outlet pipe fitting.

'Maybe' there is an issue with the release valve inside the pump, but it's rather a wild guess. May source one from the breakers and swap to test, installing may require a special tool to release the tension and remove the belt
