Default oil change in the new car

I'm wondering what's your thoughts about changing the oil in a new car, let's say after 2000 kilometres (diesel).
Do you think it's worth to do it?

I wouldnt, unless the manufacturer specifies as such. There are some suggestions (that sound entirely plausible but I dont know exactly how true they are) that high performance oil going into an engine too early can prevent the piston rings from bedding in correctly, resulting in reduced power/performance and issue with piston blow-by and high oil consumption.

I used to years ago, even after like 1k miles, and new bikes are still oil changed after around 700 miles.

Oils have come a long way though, and as people never seem to keep cars like they used to no one really bothers now.

So you are suggesting that they put in a different oil for the first year, 20k miles on a Volvo?

If I was going to I would assume the oil the car is given to you with, is the same as you put in for life, thus put in the same oil as recommended.

That was how it used to be done, 20-30 years ago.. First fill was usually what's called "break-in oil" - a SAE30 or SAE40, with break-in specific additives- as MaDProFF says this is still done by (some..) bike manufacturers. With modern engines the break-in is done at the assembly like- so the first fill is the same you use for life.

There is no need to change your oil before the required first service, unless you want to feel better about doing so and to throw about £80 of good oil away at the recycling centre.
If it were required Volvo would say so in the owners manuals/service books.

I dont honestly know, nor do I know what Volvo recommend. I was merely pointing out that I wouldnt unless it was recommended by the manufacturer (assuming it is Volvo, in this instance). The purpose of an early oil change used to be so that swarf or metal filings generated would be removed. This is less of an issue now with modern production processes.
