Default S40 1.8i SE 4dr Auto P reg 3/97 Advice pse

My Dad has had his Volvo S40 since new (March 1997). It’s maroon/metallic and has done c 65k miles, it’s in good condition. MOT expires end of March. FSH. No damage that I’m aware of. Due to his age he has decided to stop driving. Can anyone advise as to whether this is saleable or what our options maybe? Thank you 😊

As it's got low mileage, despite being old you'd hope it would be worth something to somebody! Might even be saleable to someone on here who's in the market for one.

Agreed. It would be even more attractive if you were able to put a year's MOT on the car, rather than offering it with a short one.

Regards, John.

Firstly get a years MOT on it if you can but don't spend a fortune doing it I would say £100 max and that includes the price of the test if there's a short test or no test you are looking at scrap value £150 ish with 12 months MOT probably looking at around £400 to the right person.
Hope that helps.

Thank you for your quick responses and really helpful comments. I shall pursue the MOT route and put some photos up after my next visit. This is hard for my Dad so I really appreciate your responses. Thank you 🙏

For the Original Poster, because the car's been your father's since new & with a provable low mileage, even if the MOT came back with some issues on it, don't despair, post back on here with the failure sheet & I'm sure it'll sell.

Many S40/V40's are now in the "run it on shirt-buttons & don't fix it" price range so a good one with some KNOWN faults shouldn't be hard to sell.

FWIW scrap value from a recognised collector should be around £120 - £150 (I got £135 for my failed MOT S40 last year) so if you can sell it for more than that without the MOT your dad's helping to keep his car "out there" for another few years.

Good luck & come back when you've got more info

Whoops just seen m0eeb's post, who said what I've done. Sorry
