Bah! going to need a new battery

It's been struggling if left for a couple of days, never quite let me down but quite common to see a host of warnings on the DIM during (slow) cranking.

Finally got round to looking at it, the voltage is falling to around 11.5V over a couple of days - it charges fine - so obviously it's on the verge of dead.

Any recommended makes out there, or brands to avoid? Also the one installed currently isn't original, anyone know the recommended CCA for a D5?

I'd recommend having a look at Tayna Batteries online.

They have a large choice and their service is excellent. No silly "60% off" sales that end on Sunday and always cheaper than anyone else. I've bought 4 batteries from them over the last few years and always a good experience.

They have a lookup reference to get the right battery for your car.

Better CCA & AH rating than original. Varta seem to have a very good reputation and it's reported are the same battery as Bosch but cheaper, Exide & Lucas seem to get less favorable reports.
I still have my original Volvo battery in the garage as I found a prolonged and repeated trickle charge brought it back more or less to life so I keep it topped up for jump starting duty. Can look up the details if you want?

Just buy a Volvo OEM battery - they are not that expensive. The 019 size OEM battery is about £100 + VAT. It will last a lot longer than the car - I replaced the original in our 2005 V70 last year, so 14 years.

I rate yuasa batteries, replaced my original with one some time back and no problems, you can search which one for your car on their site,

I think Ybx3119 probably or 5xx series, the 3119 s you can get delivered around £100

Just bought a Yuasa battery today, 900CCA, engine hasn’t cranked this fast since I’ve owned the car!

I will second the choice of Yuasa battery.
Just fitted a YBX9019 AGM , in my 2003 D5. Starts a lot faster.

Its surprising how much better things work with a new battery, lights at night are brighter , cranking when cold has to be the biggest one, must be the slight increase in volts 😀 and extra current
