Engine management light
The phase 2 as per sig'
Returned today from Derby to Southern Brittany ,so a good 12hr+ blat (shared driving). Got to about 1/2 an hour from home....... Flashing EML. Went off on the 'flat' struggled to get 20mph on any slight slope.....this was when the lamp flashed. Made it though after an otherwise faultless 2000+ miles in 2 weeks. Fuel was low, 55 to empty but been there before... Not had chance yet to try codes, but any pointers? TIA.

Check the in-tank pump and the cross connection...sounds like low fuel level may be affecting the transfer across the saddle tank.

Right have connected my code reader now:
P0303 misfire cylinder 3. So coil pack or plug..... Time to swap 3 & 4 packs and see if the misfire moves with it.

Just goes to show...read the codes every time, guessing from symptoms may not necessarily give the right answer no mater how logical it might look!
To explain the saddle tank and crossover... The V70 has a tank designed to sit across the "propshaft" (found in the AWD versions, all V70's have the same tank I believe) so has two compartments separated at low fuel levels. The in-tank pump, located in the UK drivers / off side, is needed to draw from the UK passenger / near side as the tank level drops (at high levels fuel is above the saddle). If the pump is weak or defective, or the internal pipework has become disconnected / kinked / floating, the pump is starved and the fuel doesn't effectively transfer. Sometimes seen as the reason for poor starting if the car is parked on a slope.
