I'm old fashioned and actually prefer physical buttons to the touch screen...

I also prefer the older XC60's after the facelift, there's quite a few things I prefer on the older ones, although I do prefer the seat adjustments on the newer, the newer digital dash is brilliant too, having the nav between the dials is excellent imo, however I find the sat nav harder to use than the older system and the touch screen interface unhelpful as its harder to use when driving to me.

Honestly though, I would drive both if its possible and see which one you prefer, the older one will have a 2.4 5 cylinder engine if its AWD, and the newer one will have the newer engine with 8 speed box, I can't remember if the last of the older shape have the new or old gearbox though

I'd really like to know the status of the auto box in the old model before deciding.

It's obscured so don't know. Out of curiosity - how could you check from a reg plate?

Just checked a 2017 AWD 2.4, 6 speed auto, I know the FWD ones used the 8 speed box towards the end of the run of them.

Always good to check!

Would make sense the 2.4's all use the 6 speed box, but wasn't 100% sure

Thank you very much for checking. I think that's pretty much made up my mind to go for the new one with the 8 speed box.

The Inscription looks a nice spec.

I just hope I am doing the right thing as it's the most I have ever spent on a car and cannot afford a mistake.

Dingle, I have owned both, albeit the D4 engine, the new model is better in just about every department, even the turning circle, which was dire in the old model, particularly for city driving. The parking brake was in a ridiculous position in the old model and did not even self apply when the engine was turned off!! To use the centre arm rest in the old version meant leaning toward it in order to touch base! steering is heavy in the old one too, etc etc etc.

Why?

They are both Euro 6.

Thanks all. Picked the D5 up today and am very pleased with it. The only thing I can't figure out is the stop/start - the dealer told me it has it but it hasn't done it once despite a good run home. Where is it in the menus (still finding my way around!).
