Rear tailgate door locked
The rear tailgate door of my 54 plate XC90 (93K miles) has suddenly locked shut.
Central locking works fine on all other doors. I have just taken it to my local dealer and they have rang to say that they are having to break the inside boot trim to access lock. I will have to pay for replacement if they can fix it. This doesn't sound good practice to me and isn't giving me much confidence. Has anyone had similar experience. Advice please. |

Mine does it sometimes. I relock it and ensure the handle for the tailgate is pushed fully forward. Then unlock with the remote again and it's usually fine. It's cause by a rusty pivot pin on the tailgate lever. Someone posted a fix for this a couple of months ago. Other than that maybe the cable has snapped but i doubt it.

Thanks
Trouble is have tried to unlock but no luck. It well and truely locked shut.
I read the earlier thread and assumed the dealer would probably follow the advice by removing the light fitting to access the pin. But as they are saying they haven't met this problem before and given they want to break the trim I feel distinctly worried about their ability to fix the problem. Cheers |

WEll just had dealer call. They have avoided breaking the trim. One new door lock required. Thats not cheap but at least it will be fixed So I should have more confidence in the guys after all.
Looking forward to new model but not holding breath. Will definately buy another volvo XC90 when it does arrive. |

Hi all
Having read through the responses to the rear door problem with the XC90 i decided to change the pin myself. Once I have gained access from inside the car all went reasonable well until i discovered that the handle although very rusted, was still working. (I am about to fit a new pin). This has just left me with the problem that the tail gate will not open. I have tried pulling and pushing the cable but with no success. Can anyone point me in the right direction of how to open the door from inside. I am assuming for now that the release mechanism is defective in some way but until I can get out of the car...... Sorry I can't help you with this, but it sounds like one of those 'you've been framed' hidden camera moments
