Default For sale - S70R Manual

Yes, it's time to sell the R

Quick summary:

Volvo S70R manual in Nautic Blue Pearl.
Modified for fast road/track use but also perfectly usable as a daily driver.
Extensive and documented service history.
Has just had a major service including all the filters and spark plugs.
Four owners from new including myself and only 109k miles.
Complete with a selection of spares and body panels.

Thread about the car is here:
http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=182462

Interested? More detail:

I bought this car just over a year ago from IC who'd had it for three years. Prior to his ownership the car had been owned by the same person and maintained at the same main dealer for 11 years. It drives superbly and I love it.

Unfortunately we recently moved house and it doesn't fit in the garage and also I don't fit in it with a helmet on - so my plans to use it on track have been comprehensively scuppered. The insurance ran out at the start of June so she's currently SORN'd.

In terms of modifications the car has:
Full stainless steel Ferrita exhaust system including downpipe and 100cel "race cat". (http://kalmar-union.com/parts/volvo-..._c70-exhausts/)
Upgraded, thicker intercooler with reverse flow pipework.
MTE Stage 2 remap.
Bilstien shock absorbers and KW springs.
IPD upgraded anti-roll bars front and rear.
Stack electronic boost gauge.

She has just had a major service where all the filters were replaced along with the spark plugs, a rear brake caliper and an ABS sensor. Two new Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres were also fitted. Cambelt and tensioners were done by MRG Volvo in October 2011 at 95k miles.

The interior is in great condition, a little wear to switches here and there and the steering wheel alcantara is flat but other than that it's all very good. The car has the newer vents from the C70 fitted which give the cabin a nice lift - it's surprising the difference they make. The original vents are also included.

In terms of spare parts we have an ABS ECU, turbocharger, dizzy cap and HT leads, Goodridge braided brake hoses (was going to fit them, never got round to it!), two headlamps and two rear light clusters, door seals, spare instrument cluster, space-saver spare wheel (car comes with full sized alloy spare), trip computer control switch, relay for the variable wiper speed mod, set of front vents for the cabin, various other bits and pieces!

Spare body parts are: four doors, bonnet, boot lid with spoiler and badges, rear bumper, two front wings. All are in the correct colour apart from the front wings which are white. Also: two front wheel arch liners, six door seals.

The original "R" book pack is present and correct as are two sets of genuine Volvo "R" branded floor mats, one of which shows some light ware and the other set is practically unmarked. These are very, very rare and can't be found new anywhere. There is also a black set of Volvo rubber mats for the winter.

The car comes with a comprehensive service history. There is too much to list, but everything is there including the original newspaper advert for the car when the second owner bought it showing a purchase price of £25,000 (and this was back in 1999 when £25k was a lot of money ), the sales invoice, service invoices and check sheets, every MoT, old tax discs, repair invoices, tyre invoices, the lot.

Service history/MoT list (services/MoT's only):
16/03/98 PDI
04/01/99 6269 miles
13/01/00 12379 miles
13/12/00 22442 miles

15/01/05 53003 miles
25/08/05 MOT 56801 miles
12/04/06 60081 miles
25/08/06 MOT 62329 miles

21/08/09 MOT 81491 miles
02/06/10 88138 miles
04/08/10 MOT 88896 miles
06/07/11 Owner service - receipt for oil and filters
25/07/11 MOT 93825 miles
26/10/11 Cambelt and tensioner 95717 miles - MRG Volvo
--/06/12 Service + Front discs and pads (service book stamp only)
29/08/12 MOT 98462 miles
02/03/13 Owner service - receipt for oil and filters
15/08/13 MOT 101755 miles
18/03/14 107633 miles

Keep in mind this is only the servicing and MoT, there are invoices for all the usual running repairs too, suspension, brakes, ABS, wiper blades, tyres, bulbs - all main dealer until the last four years when it's been looked after by a local Volvo specialist.

Bad bits? Mainly exterior cosmetics.
The rear bumper has a couple of corner scuffs, the paint on the bumper is in poor shape (the bumper itself is undamaged, just needs rubbing back and painting) and the bonnet has a lot of stone chips. Personally it doesn't bother me, I bought the car to drive and that's where it absolutely excels, but if you want a spotless example she'll need a bit of paint.

Also currently the car is throwing ABS faults pointing to one of the front wheels. The sensor has been replaced and the ABS ECU has been swapped - this leaves the reluctor ring or the lead from the sensor to change. I've taken this into account in the pricing, I could get it fixed but that means taking the car off SORN, getting it insured, getting it to the garage, etc. If there's no interest with the car as it is then I'll get it fixed but then the price will obviously reflect that.

I suspect the values of good "R"s are only going to go one way, but I don't have the space to keep this and the Lexus and the track car and the wife's car!

£3500 as a complete package with all the spares. £3250 without the spares.

Well it was always a bit of a punt with dodgy ABS

I'll be getting the car un-SORN'd, the ABS fixed and will also get a new 12 month MoT put on it in the next few weeks - will then re-advertise. If you're interested on that basis drop me a PM to discuss.

Cheers,
John

Personally I reckon £4.3k for an 850R is massively overpriced, but thought saying so on your for sale thread would be a bit out of order.

Each to their own, we both have very niche cars and at the end of the day only the market can decide what they'll sell for.

I'm in no hurry, quite happy to use the R as a weekend toy now that I've actually got some time to spend on getting her sorted. Changing jobs is a pain in the arse

an 855r manual with 98k is much more desirable than an s70r, i had an s70r last year manual with 150k,
besides my 850r had lots of expensive mods including forged engine, new 19t turbo, new wheels and tyres, custom map the list is endless, you either want to sell it or not and you won't at that price, maybe a grand less and you might get some attention

by the way i have a nautic v70r manual fwd and it aint worth anywhere near that figure

Your saffron v70r, was written off recently I think it was a chap named Ryan who bought it, was after some parts from mine until I sold it whole.

I sold my chassis modded (being brief) 854 t5r, which I converted to. 6 sp for £3500, engine was standard just a nice rip kit.

Good history 119k very few owners.

Needed some attention on bodywork, had a bit of fading.

Prices seem to be going up at moment.

I doubt I'll be selling my guls, I have a 850r olive green which I was going to break but has 1 owner in 17 years other than me, I'll fix it manual converted tidy up and keep it or sell. They seem to be worth more as a car than they are as spares.

I think repaired its about the right money, splitting hairs £3k seems about right.

I sold my v70r for not much under £3k with 217k on the clock, that had big brakes and refurbed 18pegs, but was engine standard. It needed a few little jobs doing as well as a bloody good vallet.

Thanks for all the feedback, positive and negative, I'm always open to discussion.

Frankie - we differ on our opinions of each other's pricing, fair enough, nothing's going to change that. There really aren't many of these cars left with low miles, few owners and this sort of provenance. To me and (hopefully!) some other people that's worth paying extra for, for others it won't be.

As ever the market will decide
