I've often thought I'd have liked to do take part in a rally, I hope this all goes well for them.

This made me smile because the Austin Maxi was appalling in any condition, including brand new.

These women were very good, many others too - Pat Moss (Stirling's sister) and more recently Michelle Mouton (very fast). There was one female driver who had a pet big cat...what was her name ?

And Austin Maxis when new weren't that bad - our career's master wasn't that stupid !

My dad had one as company car from new and some of my earliest memories were of him berating just about every aspect of it for the 3 years he had it in fact the first and only time I heard my dad use the F-word was his reaction to the gear change...... "It's like stirring f***ing porridge!"
Another memory were the second degree burns in summer from the PVC seats.

I wouldn't want to hijack Angies thread, but the worst Maxis were the early one's with cable gearchange, later cars much improved.

We never had Maxis, but knew people who bought new - I'd maintain they weren't that bad, that's my experience.

Now, who was that driver with the big cat ?

His was a 1977 R reg so not an early model.

I'm not sure discussing the car in the article is any different to discussing the people or the event so no thread hijack.

Having navigated on rallies have to say it's a trust thing.
If you don't have full faith in your drivers abilities you never do a compleat job as your always wondering where the next big moment or crash will occur.

Some navigators could ride with just about anyone, l only navigated for those I really trusted to not kill me.
Similarly the driver had to trust you and your map/ pace note reading skills, if they were even a bit unsure of you they would not commit to flat over blind brow 50 into 3 right as required.

My favourite was pre plotted road rallies, always fun they were, map reading at its finest.

If the girls do it for fun I hope they enjoy it but being competitive is a youngsters game.
