Default Rear diff and transfer box oils

Hi all haldex changed. Next up is an oil change for the rear diff and transfer box.

Volvo quoted nearly 50 for two litres of oil, with the part no for both changing to the same volvo code.

GL-5 SAE 75w90 seems to be the spec now for both front and rear.

Anyone recommend non volvo oil manufacturers that you have used?

I changed all 4 transmission oils on my 2004 awd v70R about 2 yrs ago. 4 different oil's. Most are once in a ownership so used genuine volvo got good dealer discount. If your dealer won't play ball try the Swansea lads who give forum members discount.

Bevel gear : SAE75W-90 API GL5
part no. 31259380.

Rear different : SAE80W API GL5
part no. 1161620.

Cheers
Bob.

Ive also been getting a bit confused by this situation.. I bought some Liqui Moly 80w for the rear diff, this being a mineral oil. On my hunt for bevel oil, Ive found the Volvo number Bob quotes above - this is now seemingly also used as diff oil. Is the official Volvo stuff mineral or synthetic?

Looks like rationalisation. The specs look fairly similar, the no longer used oil being a single grade oil, the used a multigrade (75-90) oil..
Can't see it making a hill of beans difference to be honest.

Cheers
Bob
