Default Heated Front Screen

Hi

One of my Volvos is a 2016 V40 it has an electric front screen that has had a malfunction since I've had it (from new).

The screen heats up but leaves 2 vertical patches that clear either far slower than the rest of the screen (or not at all I'm not sure).

I've had the car into the dealer and the screen was replaced under warranty, unfortunately I still get the stripes in the same location and if anything the situation is slightly worse.

I had the car in again and they apparently ran all sorts of tests to ensure the current was right elements work as they should so from a technician point of view it's all fine, but I still have the issue.

I had hoped the dealer would throw me a couple of hundred quid as a good will and I'd accept it but they want to resolve the issue. Frankly I'm fed up with tooling over to Guildford but at the same time if I've paid for something I want it to work.

Has anyone experienced this? It might be an issue not restricted to the V40 any other Volvo with the electric screen might have the same peculiarity!

Image attached.

Thanks

Yes, I get vertical patches that do not clear as quickly as the rest of the screen. I think it is a manufacturing problem, but I cannot prove that. On the XC60 there is a similar vertical patch but just next to the drivers A pillar that does not clear as quickly.

I also had a problem on the V40 where it needed to be used for two or three mornings before it really decided to clear the screen quickly as if it needed to be used a couple of times before it became efficient.

As i recall the heating element wires run top to bottom, so the vertical strips you show are not being heated as much as the surrounding screen, presumably as a result of these sections not working as per the rest of the screen, regardless of the measured current and other parameters.
As the screens are only connected to power in a couple of locations with distribution across the screen being within the laminate layer, I would say that that is sufficent evidence of a manufacturing fault - presuming that Volvo want the screen to clear consistantly across its width.
I would push them to replace the screen again - don't mess about, it won't heal itself and is only likely to degrade further with time.
