Thumbs up The National Best Kept Volvo 2006

Lakeland Estate, Rutland Water. BKV 18th June 2006.

The National BKV 2006 will be taking place at the Lakeland Estate on the southern shores of Rutland Water. This is a wonderful flat site that is very convenient for the A1 and the A14. Details of all the arrangements will be published in The Driver and made available on the web site as they are confirmed.

What exactly happens at the National Rally? I won't be entering my car in the BKV (I want to give everyone else a chance ) but I'm interested to know what else goes on.

Load's of fun. Auto jumble, driving tests, usually a bash on the night before, loads of great cars to look at, loads of great people to meet. The first year I went I didn't enter any of my cars and later wish I had, so turn up and join in!!!

It's a lovely part of the country, not far from Stamford (Lincs, very picturesque) in the East and Oakham (Nice little market town) in the west. The whole of the Rutland Water area is full of nice little villages with nice little country pubs. The lake itself is huge (over 20 odd miles to walk/cycle around the shore). The usual watery pastimes are available, fishing sailing sailboarding, plus lots of birdwatching opportunities. Just off the North shore is the late Geoff Hamilton's Barnsdale Garden, well worth a visit, also nearby is the Anglian Water centre which has examples of freshwater fish found in the lake, and adjoining is a butterfly centre. On the South-Eastern shore is Normanton Church which was saved from the waters when the valley was flooded to form the reservoir. The church houses a very interesting exhibition showing how the whole project was built. There is also a water-bus type operation that picks up at three or four places around the lake.
OK advert over! It is a very nice place to visit though.

Default Caravans...

I am not sure where, why or how far back it was placed, but I have allways had it in my mind that caravaning and the use of mobile homes was often associated with and usefull in the persuance of swinging and other related activities.......
