Hastings Insurance
A few threads on here mention difficulties with Hastings, making peanuts payouts on claims and generally being cr@p.
(Im insured with H, may not be next time, this time they were very cheap) Anyone with experience wish to comment ?

I'm with them the last 2 years but not claimed. Have 5 year's ncd and they quoted £250 on the phone after not being able to offer breakdown due to cars age. I have a 1989 240 insured business use for £1000 value.

Not sure if this is relevant, but they were absolutely fine when I used them for an insurance windscreen replacement on my Focus (in 2013). It was all done quickly and the job was done very well (exact same factory spec heated screen Pilkington part fitted - no skimping attempted).
I've noticed they're about £100 cheaper for annual car insurance compared to my current insurer, so I might well switch across to them on my Volvo too.

Sent a reminder through for our £1500 snotter renewal at double the cost of the previous year. Went somewhere else for less. Then wife called them to cancel and bloke said he could have got close to what we now paid and wondered why they sent stupid renewal prices to us. If you dont give a good deal in the first place, I go.
As for windscreens. It only took them 8 weeks for our volvo screen.............total shambles. Volvo now with John lewis. Would rather pay a bit more and if the moment happens have someone willing to sort it out. |

I've used them once, on renewal their price shot up, so it was no thanks and good bye.

Most insurers give stupid renewal prices, the really stupid ones are those that pay. A quick phone call usually gets the price down to a sensible level.
Im looking for people who can tell me about claims experiences. So far I have excellent and total-shambles.

No experience of Hastings. I'd been insured with a broker for the last three years but the price kept going up despite my NCD going from 0 to 3 years in the process. In addition, I'm adding a Remap, Ferrita Exhaust and a couple more modsso figured it'd rise further so I decided to shop around.
Didn't expect much joy seeing as I was declaring mods and most mainstream insurers seem to shy away from modified cars. To my surprise I got a few decently priced quotes. Zenith cheapest, Esure not far behind. No idea what they're like in the event of a claim. Hopefully I won't need to find out but they're all regulated so there's always an appeals process. |

Do you think its any coincidence that a company who is cheap also has a reputation for not paying out full amounts and being crap? Despite what some people think not all insurance is the same and they will of course try to minimise payouts which keeps their costs down. |

I find LV to be one of the cheapest and when I was rear-ended last year, they were extremely quick and pain-free to deal with.
What more do you want? My V70 had a smashed rear bumper and detachable towbar mechanism wrecked. Clio that hit me was a write-off. Once again, their car was my crumple zone. Good slogan to advertise Volvos I would have thought.
