So....painting brake callipers....a good idea or not?

A tasteful colour to complement the wheels and car...

Done properly - calliper off, sanded to get rid of rust etc, masked and painted using proper calliper paint.

Sounds like a god idea if done properly and carefully.

Any downsides or bad points?

Whatever floats your boat, it's your car.
Apart from the boy racer aspect and possible de valueing of your car depending on choice of colour can see no detrimental effects.

The only colour I have ever painted calipers is black, though my concern is that they work rather than their colour.
I appreciate Brembo paint their calipers red, I just think it garish, but it's not my car so none of my business, but as you asked I gave my opinion. Please feel free to ignore it if you wish, as I've said it's your car.

Paul.

No offence taken ..... am thinking black to go with the black car....

Am in two minds..... perhaps having paint covering such vital components is not a great idea?

Decisions... decisions !

Hej,

I get my calipers always painted (and sanded, if nesessary) because there is nothing more, I hate, than rust on any part of my Elks. In technikal concerns, there is no problem at all! The choice of colour is, of course, a question of taste. I prefer colours, that don´t blink! In the case of the calipers i prefer silver, as it looks some how like original and does not pretend more than it is. But black will work as well!

Hej Hej Gernot

Previous owner painted them silver on my V70. I like it - 10 years later and they still look better for it.
