Default Depreciation

Recently was in a Mazda showroom with a friend (he was looking at the new 3) and chatting to the salesman asked me if I was interested in a pre reg Mazda 6. I wasnt to be honest but its a nice car, and told him if the price was right for mine I might be. Anyway off he goes, does his sums and tells me he can give me £13,000. I have an S60 D2 se lux with 8000 miles on the clock. Its a 2012 car but bought pre reg may 2013. I walked away of course as I do like my S60 but was dissapointed with the price. Was the salesman being mean or has this car lost a lot of its value ?

Cars loose the biggest amount of money in the first years...VAT instantly accounts for a small proportion. Although looking at the residuals on the new 6,3 and CX5 they have outstripped the percentage residual value kept even above some premium cars.

It would not happen to be Mitchell's Mazda?

Forget fuel, forget insurance, forget RFL, biggest motoring cost is always depreciation.

I did a check today on a one year old XC60 to the spec I used to have and it does seem to have dropped at least £2.5k over the last 18 months. Must make it a great 2nd hand buy.

Default Depreciation.

Volvo keep mum about it but the current S60 is the fastest depreciator in its sector.

...which always makes me smile when people splash out £40,000 plus for their new cars and then wail about getting a couple of miles per gallon fewer than they expected...it's PEANUTS guys...!!

Still a pointless thread.

Those that want a new car will buy new then sell in on
creating a car for the second hand market.

Regardless of the depreciation I will always buy new (just careful with what I buy)
