I tend to just use Shell V-power or BP ultimate. I've yet to put a tank of "standard" diesel in it! haha I figured this must help with DPF but can't be sure.

If you're referring to the oil quantity, the euro 4 D5's don't even take the amount specified in the manual. Due to the issue of fuel diluting the oil causing the level to rise after these cars were made, the recommended fill level is 70% in VIDA (That's around 5.7 litres). If you add any more oil than that, then it can cause the "Engine system service required" light to come on, simply because the oil level would be too high.

Volvo had to recalibrate the dipsticks in euro 4 D5's, so the car thinks the 70% oil quantity or approx 5.7 litres is full in effect, when really its around 3/4 up the dipstick. Many non-Volvo garages don't actually know this, so they keep adding oil to the engine until it reaches the full mark on the dipstick, which is basically overfilling the engine - That's when you get the warning messages.

Do you think my euro 4 T5 has the same patch applied?

Full on physical dipstick shows the around 35 percent on Vida / scantool

I think it only applies to the Diesel models. I'm sure if the oil level was too high or too low in your particular car that you'd get some kind of warning on the dash. The euro 4 D5's certainly would tell you, as they're a bit fussy so to speak with regards to the oil quantity. Even a slight overfill can cause a warning light!

I too join the list of people with the "engine service" message, and checking the dip stick (A traditional long one) I find it over full by a bit.
Not wanting to drain from beneath I would like any recommendations for oil sucker things.

I bought an electric oil removal pump from Lidl for £13 which has a dip tube that inserts through the dip stick channel. Lidl only sell these things sporadically but Halfords probably sell them. That or a manual squeeze bulb version.

My 2010 reg XC70 service required warning came on recently.
The Manual for my previous car a 2007 reg V702.4se lux states that the service reminder can be reset by using the Trip reset button and Key Fob in a certain order.
However after refilling the engine with only 5.5 litres of 0w30 oil, (The Manual ststes 6.0ltrs) and carrying out the reset procedure, the service reminder stays on, despite the bleep sound to say it has been reset.
Previous blogs here state that the service reset should be automatic after a few miles, but mine hasn't reset after iro 50 miles.
My car hasn't a Dipstick to check the Oil Level, but I don't get any overfilled message when I check if the oil level is ok by means of the turn Knob on the steering Colum Multi Function lever.

I had the distinct feeling from an earlier post that it would reset itself but it would take significantly more miles. I would expect a couple of hundred. Please tell us how you get on October37
