Question American ECU Vs Euro ECU

I am just wondering if there are any Guru's out there who have replaced an American version of the ECU with the European ECU.

I have a 1996 850 without turbo and a manual transmission. I am looking for a spare ECU, not chipped, and the manual transmission version are quite rare in the USA.

If I get the OK, I will try to find one and have it shipped to the USA.

Thank you.

Not sure if the Euro ECU will know about all the emissions systems the US ECU has coded. I'm thinking EVAP, Pulsair, EGR and all that other rubbish.

Additionally, I'm not sure if the Euro ECU presents the emission 'monitors' the same way to a testing station, so could be an issue come inspection if your state has emission testing?

Sorry that's not much help!

Chris...

It would be real nice if the system just ignored all of the mandated emission related garbage we have over here. My Pulsair (SAS) pump has died and I am in the process of deleting that system...
Only the East and West coast test cars, where the pollution and population density is the highest. Those of us that live in the 2,000 miles between the mountains are a bit luckier. I do keep my cars in good nick so they get decient miles per gallon and keep the CO2 levels at a reasonable level.
