Default V70 (MY 2002) Engine Mounts

Hi everyone. Has anybody ever had to replace the bottom engine mounts on a D5? I have a lot of vibration on initial start up which the dealer suggests may be the lower engine mounts which are vacuum influenced below 1500 revs. They want a fortune to replace the mounts and vacuum pipes. The engine runs fine when warmed up but still vibrates a lot. At 1500 rpm it suddenly becomes smooth. Any ideas please?

i would have thought that you may have had some issues with the engine if they are not working correct me if i am wrong. i would get a second opinion.

I found that if you take off the black vacume tube (which is located on the front of the air filter box) and suck the air out, the tube leads to both front and back engine mounts, if you have to keep sucking air then you have a leak from one of them. it is easy to trace the tubes to both so you can to the test again. they are easy to replace, the rear is a bit of a fiddle but can be done.

get a mityvac (about 40 pounds) to check for leaks. The pneumatic mounts are about 100 ish from stealers. If you have a leak you would be getting it going into limp home. Relatively easy to change for the front one and have not yet had to do the rear (guess its the same except access might be more difficult).

Where the pipe enters the mount they sometimes crack and leak from there.

Hi - Thanks for your interest. Strangely enough there are no engine issues at all. It runs fine when warmed up. There is an electronic switch which cuts out the vacuum above 1500 rpm I believe, at least thats what they told me when they charged 150 quid to replace it with no effect. I have tried 2 dealers and both came up with the same diagnosis although 1 did say it could be dirty injectors or a couple of preheaters not working. I have now tried injector cleaner, (Millers at twice the dosage), and that doesn't seem to have helped either.

It was a bit more complicated than that. The car is now being used by daughter who lives in Scotland - 300 miles away. The job was done with the service which was done here in Lincoln but the car was then wisked back to Scotland straight after therefore the lack of improvement was missed by me. I did mention it to the dealer who said it had shown as faulty on the engine management system but he didn't offer a refund. Having said that I have found the Volvo dealership in Lincoln to be really excellent - highly recommended.
