Hi,

If you consider sourcing your own genuine parts (from us in FRF) you will beneift from around a third of the price off the standard retail price for the parts, so a considerable saving on parts at least.

Without knowing the exact details of your car, V70/S60 genuine Volvo front pads are currently around £35 including vat, disks are around £75 for the pair including vat. (some different sizes so we always check using registration number.) DHL delivery charge for pads and disks is a 2 day service at £10.00, so a genuine set of front disks and pads could be with you for around £120 all in. This may be an option for you to consider.

If you are interested please follow the link below and send us a request for a no obligation price and ordering information, or send me a pm but remember to include your registration number.

Those prices put the £255 fitted price into perspective bearing in mind that RUFE is offering to supply GENUINE parts.

£135 labour for a VERY simple job

Order the above parts, and do it yourself. If you can remove an appendix, believe me , this is within your scope.

I'm not sure how much the fronts differ from the rears, but I just had my rear discs/pads (and handbrake shoes) done.

From the invoice, £176.00 all in +VAT (they fitted the handbrake shoes free as the wheels were off etc), which was £211.50.

If I knock the handbrake shoe cost out of that, it was £180 all in. They did the fronts a few months ago, so I could dig the invoice out for you if you'd like.

Moi, hence my previous post.

I reckon this can all be done in less than an hour! That means the garage are charging at least £135 an hour?

You would need to be something like a SURGEON to charge that amount

Yeah but a surgeon would do the job working through the exhaust pipe!

I'd go with the genuine parts from RUFE, a very fair price

Yes I could do it dangling through the sunroof, through the exhaust pipe and still not break a sweat. Brings a new meaning to keyhole surgery.

It's time for me. Just don't have enough. Corner garage emailed me today, they quoted

Volvo Pads £35,
Volvo discs £71
Labour £36
Total= £142 + vat

Which I think is reasonable. They've always done a superb job before and know the car as it's one of theirs. The other garage has a neighbour that works there, he is aware of what I do and think he was charging me top whack.

Corner garage have always been superb with me and when I asked about the cam belt change they replied with this

Volvo Cambelt KIt £60 (Cambelt +Tensioner)
Labour £36
Total £96+vat

Also recommended is the pump belt

Pump belt £25
Idler pulley£35
Tensioner £45
Labour £36
Diagnostics£35 (Checks the dynamic pump timing)
Total £176+vat

I like to keep on top of the car at all times. They said the pads don't need doing for 6 months as there is still the meat there to cope but I don't like running things down to a minimum. If someone says it needs doing soon I would rather get it done. I see too many accidents where car neglect has played a part.

I will get all the work done at the CG then the car will be perfect for the next 60k. It last had a cam belt on at 68k and has now done 117k. Needs doing in the next 10k.

Thanks everyone. Still don't fancy tackling it myself to be honest. Not my thing. No time and each to their own. Dare say if I watched it being done it could be an easy job but my talents don't stretch to mending cars or DIY. You wanna see the shelves I put up

A sound choice. I doubt the majority of forum members would contemplate removing their own appendix !
