Remote locking not working
OK, this is an interesting one.
Firstly there are no fault codes logged on Vida and there definately isn't an interfering radio signal. When I bought the car, it came with a key and a non-functioning remote. New battery and the remote transmitted but wasn't recognised by the car - OK, so it could have been an ebay replacement to make the car look more complete. I bought a brand new remote, with code etc and have just attempted to have it programmed into the car. Although the car took the software and now shows 2 remotes are programmed to it, the car still doesn't respond. Could there be a fault in the UEM (I believe this is where the signal is picked up) that isn't reported by the diagnostics, does the remote receiver have a remote or external (to the UEM) aerial to pick up the remote signals? Took it apart, the receiver part of the UEM appears to be on a little daughter board with the antenna part of the PCB.
Can't see anything amiss, so am confused. The only thing I can think of - if I assume the UEM is good - is that the control I got with the car isn't the original one, and my new one, which wasn't sealed ended up in the wrong packet with an unrelated serial number - it does seem a little too odd though that both controls could be incorrect for the car/packaging. Is there anyway of checking that the unit is receiving a signal? The only thing I can see in vida is if it has decoded the signal as been valid for the car, that will be further up the functionality chain. The car is a 2002 so has the seperate fobs rather than one built into the key. |

I think there are different frequency fobs available. I recently had a new one from Volvo and wen they tried to code it they said it was the wrong one. Got a different fob in the afternoon and all worked hunky dory.

Thanks for that, it was one of the 1st things I checked. Both the units I have are tuned to the EU frequency band of 433.92MHz.

Thought I'd update this:
Following the previous posts, I also noticed that the auto-dimming mirror wasn't working as well - pointing the finger of suspicion directly at the UEM. I've just had a software re-load done, cost about £80 at Volvo in Blackburn, which has fixed it - My original remote still doesn't work so I assume that is alien to the car, but the new one does and the mirror has started to dim as well. Overall a good result |
