Alternator replacement
Hey guys, been lurking on here for a while and rather than pay £££ to have my alternator replaced by the worlds most expensive garage at the end of the street I thought I'd have a go myself. Its a 2003 S80 and I got a brand new alternator for a song on ebay, I've removed the aux belt easily enough, a 14mm spanner did the trick but I have to remove the steering pump and that's proving 'interesting'. I've used a thin 12mm spanner to loosen the ?three bolts to the front of the pump but of course the pulley is blocking the bolts from coming out. Is the a way of removing the power steering pump pulley to allow access to the bolts? I've searched here and on Youtube (thank you Mr Google!) but am coming up blank... does it 'just' slide off? I don't want to force it off and have to change the pump as well..
Cheers Derek Actually...is it possible to carry on removing the thee bolts through the holes in the pulley? Last edited by minerva1961; Nov 29th, 2012 at 12:03. Reason: Addition info found |

Hello, Yes, the three bolts unscrew and exit straight out through the holes in the pulley. Kira

Thank you for the replies, seems I could get the four bolts off through the pulley - doh!
So, novice mechanic, and in space of three hours was able to swap out alternators, so much easier to work on than any of my previous cars and this forum has been a great resource, thanks everyone very much, am going to post photos and semi walk through - once I warm up! Derek |
