Default Auto Wipers

Hi All,

I am not very impressed at all with the auto wipers and before I complain to my dealer about them I just wanted to see if other people are having any issues and they are just not very good, or if mine could be faulty.

Basically I find they are a bit erratic! Sometimes when it is wet and I start the car up they don't clear the screen and other times they come on and stay on for the whole journey to work (not very far admittedly) and can go to full speed when its not even raining. This is not all the time so i'm not sure if the sensor can be easily confused especially on a damp morning when its not actually raining.

I do find though that even in normal rain conditions they are either too late coming on or too fast and don't turn off. I have adjusted the timing setting on the right stick but haven't found this to help at all.

I know auto wipers can be quite a subjective issues (a bit like road noise!) and you need to take a while to get used to how they work but im not impressed at all. The wife's Kia Sportage has it and although not perfect seems far more responsive than on the XC90.

Like I said I was just wanting others thoughts before I contact my dealer.

Thanks

I've just done a 500 mile trip and found them to be not much use. They didn't clear the window enough and I kept disabling the function when I used the stalk to clear..more trouble than worth IMHO

Possibly a stupid question but have you pressed the small auto button on the right hand stork? Only asking as I initially wasnt aware of it and had the exact same opinion.

Sounds exactly like the auto-wipers on my Mk1 XC90.

Yes im aware of the small auto button, it took me a while to figure out its loction but now I use it a lot when I have to disable the system due to its craziness! I also kept disabling it accidentally when giving a manual sweep myself but have learnt that it does not do this by pushing the stork down.

They've not improved since I got my car 2.5 years ago then. I do find I'm altering the scroll wheel frequently to calm them down. They are def less than perfect but only complain if you can demonstrate the car when squeaky clean and no dirt over the winsdscreen sensors...

I find that if it has been raining but currently isn't, the car doesn't always clear the window after starting the car. If it is raining then they are usually well behaved.

If you need to use the stalk to sweep the windscreen when auto wipers are activated, pull it downwards, this does not disengage the auto function, pushing the stalk up activates normal wipers and disengages auto.

This is my 6th Volvo with Auto Wipers and I have never had an issue with them.
I normally leave them on the most sensitive setting.
Engaging the Auto setting always gives one wipe of the windscreen and this removes any moisture, etc.

How one can turn the Auto selection off by accident, is beyond me.
Yes, it will happen if you move the stalk in the wrong direction, to go into intermittent wipe mode.
