Question XC60 MY2022 - Google/Android infotainment system

Hi there

I recently bought a XC60 (model year 2021).

I notice that Volvo has upgraded their XC60 MY2022 infotainment system to include Google software. Is there any way to upgrade my XC60 MY2021 to have this infotainment system? Google/Android is way better than the Volvo Sensus system.

Thanks

E

I believe the Volvos that run the android automotive have quicker processors. The only way to upgrade would be to change your car. The new system looks brilliant.

Thanks for both replies.

That's a real shame. Obviously it doesn't make any sense at all to swap my car given it is a month old!!

I wonder if there is a way to get an update to the processor and operating system? So annoying as the new Google system is a massive improvement on the previous Volvo infotainment systems.

Anything is possible. Volvo dealers are usually able to retrofit a lot of factory options so could maybe do a swap out if they could get hold
of the parts but two potential snags 1) the part will probably cost a very high sum and 2) there is a global semiconductor shortage effecting most, if not all, car manufacturers. Getting processors is really difficult so trying to retrofit a higher spec processor in an existing car will probably not get prioritised by a dealer over a new car order, which are all backed up right now. I know someone who ordered an Octavia last year with an optional reversing camera and they still don’t have a delivery date as Skoda are prioritising cars that use the fewest semiconductors

I have just ordered a XC60 Recharge with the new Google system so will look forward to getting it in the not too distant future. Going to have the Charger unit fitted in the garage and Volvo are paying for the basic fitting so this saves a bit more money.

Updating from the "old" sensus to the new Google infotainment won't be possible. Volvo has confirmed this and the only way to get the new infotainment system is to buy a new car.

Anything may be "possible" but actually making something happen can be a different proposition.

Volvo can retrofit some factory options and available retrofit options are listed on Volvo's Accessories website. Upgrading to the Google/Android infotainment system isn't amongst the available options so essentially this isn't possible.

So I assume that the Google stuff is fully integrated to operate all car functions. Sensus is a bit of a mess, then combined with Apple CarPlay you have another system. I find the car settings where you swipe one side and then apps or options where you swipe the other way just inconsistent. Of course you then have the pull down settings. Looks like it has been designed by lots of different people.

Don’t get me started on two different sound settings that have different options! Why would you have two different areas to adjust tone controls!!!!

I’d love just the smaller climate options with the camera button at the bottom of the screen. I wonder if it would be easier to make icons smaller, and then increase the touch zones so you can have more options.

I had a drive in a Polestar 2 today. The mapping with Google Maps is great; everything else is a bit half-baked.

You can't access the speed limiter from the steering wheel controls anymore; the speed limit information is small and frequently wrong; everything is buried about three layers deep in menus; Google Assistant is useless ("I didn't understand" or "Something went wrong"); Pilot Assist works but has terrible UI and doesn't give you the feedback about other vehicles that the existing system does...

I went in expecting a brilliant experience and was distinctly underwhelmed.
