Default How can I reset my service light on my 1998 S70?

Hi

I understand that there are ways of resetting the service light. I had my car serviced by my own garage who have done my cars for years but they don't have a reset tool. On earler 850's and S70's here was a way of doing it, but those techniques don't seem to work on mine.
Can anyone help??????

many thanks

Clint

I also own an 98 S70.

There is no easy method of resetting the service light. It either needs Volvo to plug in their computer tool, or an independent garage to plug in an OBDII tool with the correct Volvo cartridge, or you buy a tool to do the same, or buy a lead, and use a laptop - I seem to think there may be some freeware software that's downloadable that will do the trick, assuming you've got the appropriate lead, and a laptop / computer to run it on.

Otherwise, though, there's no weird button combinations or in-car procedures that will do it.

Hi,

there was a period during MY96-97 when the service reminder light could only be reset using the OBDII tool.

Very aggrevating if you happen to have a car of this age.

This doesn't work on 98 S70s.

As I said, for these model years, you need to use an OBDII tool.

Hi,

I am having problems resetting my service reminder light.

The sequence involving holding the tripmeter reset button does not work, and I understand from postings that my car (1998 V70) needs to be reset via the OBDII system. My garage use a "Snap on" universal EOBD diagnostic system, but cannot see a way of restting the reminder light.

Does anyone know of a way through this electronic maze. All I want to do is turn my reminder light off until the next time! Somehow taking the lamp out doesn't seem right.

Thanks in anticipation.

You need a reset tool there are a number available, try e-bay, the club has one for hire.

Of you have a laptop you can use this software with a suitable interface lead:

It does a bit more than reset the service light.
