engine change

Hi all.,
Have engine probs...., was thinking about changing engines i have a 1998 V40 1.9 TD diesel.., can i put an earlier engine in., for example a 2000 or 2003??

not without a LOT of work , the later engine uses the volvo gearbox whilst yours uses the renault , Your engine is mainly mecnanical the later are common rail with full electronic control .. if you got a write off late model it may be possible as you would have all the bits you would need , as even the instruments are different ..
