Default Aircon pump

As suspected by myself and others, my air con pump on the V40 1.9D does appear to be seized.

Belt finally snapped today which was no surprise as it came with a new one in the boot when I bought it...

Turned all the pulleys, alt and PS pump and they all turn freely. AC pump is stiff to turn. Lubricated it best I could and unplugged it to stop it being inadvertently activated as a temporary fix.

I know there is a modification to use a shorter belt and bypass the pump but I'd rather fix it properly if possible. Are the pumps reasonably easy to change over and are they easy to get hold of (as in, are they compatible with other models)?

Had very little fun changing the belt, wasn't a job I enjoyed!

It is the clutch inside that actually fails, so even if you use the WD40 trick, it will be very short lived.

They are extremely easy to replace. 4 bolts that you can easily access from under the car and you are good to go

The only tricky part is that you can't just undo the pipes connected to it, as you can't let the gas loose out in the atmosphere. You have to have it professionally emptied and then regas it after you have replaced the pump

Unfortunately, there is no compatibility of the AC pump, with any of the other S/V40 models. Only the 1.9D Phase 2 models with the 115BHp and 102BHp horsepower

Also, forgot to add, that if you want. you can also get a new clutch kit and replace it behind the pulley. Spoke to a friend of mine in Wales and they have a P2 compressor from a low mileage 92k S40. £45 including postage. If interested, let me know and I'll pass you the details

Sounds relatively stress free! Didn't have time to have a proper look today as I threw everything back together before having to start work.

As for the gas, no need to worry as the AC system is (to my knowledge) empty anyway as informed by the previous owner. Not sure if it leaks or not but I can have that checked locally by a licenced AC maintainer.

Definitely interested in that, I'll send you some details across, thank you for that
