Default Steering wheel removal S60

I'm trying to remove the airbag unit from the steering wheel (the wheel has come loose!!) There is one thread that I've read and I understand that spring clips hold it on. I've tried using a flat head screwdriver, but without knowing how the clips attach its difficult to know which direction to push. Any way I've tried everything but haven't found the knack yet. So, has anyone got a diagram or picture of the airbag unit so that I can see how the springs attach?

I've never personally understood the issues..... Volvo clearly have no issues with posting the information on the internet for everybody to see.........

The VAG boys have been doing it for years!

Why don't you have a look at

Steering Wheel Removal/Installation

There be the destructions...... And from Volvo themselves freely available on the internet, stick that up yer Volvo Vadis copyright pipe and smoke it (In the nicest possible sense ).

Regards

Ben, in my previous post I wrote that the post has been temporarily taken down. It is important that Bob and I can discuss a post in such cases. There was a case recently on the forum of a copyright owner asking for a post to be taken down that had been posted without his consent involving code reading information.

That I understand Iain, however many people are very quick to jump down the " you can't post that, coz..... innit...." How in gods name can "Code Reading Information" be "copyrighted"?

The only reason I can think for "Code Reading" information to be Censored (because that in my opinion is what it is) is to protect someone making a shed load of cash for what is in effect nothing.... Look at me, I've cost the dealers thousands in Code Reading of P2 vehicles, should I apologise? Nah Sod em It's a bloody protectionism racket, and it seems ten times worse in the Volvo Market... maybe because everyone gets censored, it isn't magic, it's nothing clever, but they don't half know how to charge for it...

What's worse in my personal opinion are the "owners" who profess a "community spirit" and do a lot of indepth work but when it comes down to it, are only out for their own back pocket and won't tell anyone what they are doing, or how they do it, yet get "narky" when the information comes out.... just look at the VT repairer of ABS Unit's racket as an example, yet despite doing it through a commercial entity who are charging £150 for a 15 minute job, and despite the fund raising of over £2k for him by forum members, he's quite happy to let them pay £150 and got real narky when the information was posted from here Tough t**ties I say .

I'm bored of the "you can't do this coz" or "you can't coz" or the "Shouldn't Coz" attitude that prevails about these cars and in particular the forums, and in my own little way, I'm showing it's not magic, not clever, and not particularly difficult to do it your own way without being raped by "specialists".

As I said earlier, the VAG boys have been doing it for years, and it's about time the Volvo side caught up to them.

Out of interest have volvo uk ever said that the use of safety critical information contained within Vadis cannot be used to help forum members.

Myself I think it would look rather bad on them if they objected.

Default Done It!

Thanks S60ben, that link showed a great picture of the spring and a good explanation too. It was really so easy, took about 30 seconds to release the airbag unit (after I'd disconnected the battery and had a cuupa etc.) For anyone else struggling if it doesn't pop off with very light pressure from a screwdriver you're doing it wrong! Simply insert the screwdriver into the hole in the back of the wheel until it reaches resistance and lever the handle gently in a direction away from the centre of the wheel, pop!
